World Environment Day: A look at Andaz Delhi's sustainable initiatives

The hotel has been awarded the LEED Gold Level Certification for their conscious electricity usage

Strengthening their vision of building a more environment friendly property through new techniques and commitments, Andaz Delhi - a concept by Hyatt - has introduced multiple initiatives since its inception, in a bid to build a more sustainable and eco-friendly hotel.

Among the many sustainability commitments the hotel has undertaken in recent times, Andaz Delhi has installed an on-site water plant that enables the hotel to provide their guests with sparkling freshwater that contains a zero-carbon footprint. The on-site water plant is estimated to save about 145 tonnes of plastic waste and 435 tonnes of carbon emissions over the next five years. They also have an on-site fully automated wet garbage composting machine that converts wet kitchen waste into dry compost in 24 hours, post which this compost is used in the hotel’s landscaping.

Having been awarded the LEED Gold Level Certification for their conscious electricity usage, the hotel is currently using 2% Green Power produced by Solar as well as 60% Green Power produced by Hydro plants, which helps in reducing the carbon footprint. Throughout the hotel, only 98% of energy-efficient LED lights are used, which results in improved environmental performance of the hotel.

Andaz Delhi is also a Zero Discharge building, i.e., they recycle all wastewater generated in the hotel and reuse it for their cooling towers landscaping as well as in their gardens. They also use highly efficient chiller plants with VFD control, Air Handling Units (AHU) that control through VFD and contribute to making Andaz Delhi into a low-power consumption building.

Along with this, the hotel also has multiple rainwater collection tanks, as well as rainwater harvesting pits and trenches which aid the environment by reducing soil erosion and the collected rainwater is also used in the hotel to promote recycling.
