Students still keen to build a career in hospitality industry

The massive success of 5th edition of Global Hospitality Education Expo in four Metro cities

The 5th Edition of Global Hospitality Education Expo was a massive success with more than 850 students attending the event across four cities; Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore and Chennai. The students participated in interactive breakout sessions in all the cities and learnt about the traits of future hospitality leaders, the need for innovation in the F&B space, the importance of focusing on the basics, and being patient and practical in terms of their career expectations and aspirations.

The sessions were hosted by industry leaders like Zubin Songadwala, Area Manager South ITC Hotels & General Manager ITC Grand Chola; Sarosh Daruwalla, Hospitality Education Counselling Expert & Les Roches Alumnus; Dirham Haque, Executive Chef at Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts, Bangalore and Gavin Vadamootoo, Banquet Operations Manager at One&Only Royal Mirage Hotel, Dubai.

In Mumbai, Nariman Abdygapparov and Anushka Malkani, alumni of Ecole Ducasse, France delivered a fantastic pastry masterclass and addressed a full house. Nariman and Anushka have trained under world-class, Michelin-starred chefs, and showcased some of the skills and concepts they learnt during their career and educational journey. Delzad Avari, Le Cordon Bleu Alumnus & Founder, Delz Kitchen organised an intensive, detailed culinary demonstration. He was delighted to see a 50:50 mix in terms of students who wanted to join the industry vs students who wanted to launch their own culinary venture.

Chef Daizy Sangla, Le Cordon Bleu Alumna and Founder, Bakez by Daizy, hosted an interactive pastry arts masterclass in Delhi. In Chennai, Chef Sujan Mukuherjee, Executive Chef at Taj Coromandel, enthralled the audience with his skills, and lessons and experiences from his life.

Fifteen leading hotel and culinary schools participated in the event and shared information on the programmes, pathways, specialisations and careers that students can explore. Most of these institutions are ranked amongst the top 10 globally or in their respective countries as per the QS 2022 World University Rankings by Subject for Hospitality & Leisure Management.

“Whilst hospitality management continues to remain a popular career choice, it was interesting to see the growing interest in Culinary and Pastry Arts. In all four cities, we interacted with many students who were interested in these areas, and it was heartwarming to see the sheer interest in this creative field. There was a perception that post Covid, student interest in studying hospitality and allied fields have gone down in India, but our events were a testimony to the fact that students are still very keen to build a career in the dynamic hospitality industry,” said Mitali Rawool, Assistant Director, Zista Events.
