National Tourism Day: Industry weighs in on state of tourism in India

The day aims to spread awareness about the importance of tourism and the impact it has on economy

National Tourism Day 2023: Every year, January 25 is marked in India as the National Tourism Day by the Union Ministry of Tourism. The aim is to spread awareness about the importance of tourism and the impact it has on the economy. India has much to offer when it comes to tourism, and the day seeks to propagate it to the global community.

On the occasion of National Tourism Day 2023, Liberatha Kallat, Chairperson & Managing Director, DreamFolks Services Limited, said, “As a leading airport service aggregator platform, we take pride in celebrating National Tourism Day and recognising the significant role it plays in bringing people and cultures together, while also enhancing their travel experiences. With an increasing number of travellers seeking new and unique destinations, we are committed to providing a comfortable and stress-free experience while they wait for their flights. We are excited to continue serving the travel community with enhanced airport services like lounges, meet and assist, food and beverages, spa, transit hotels/nap rooms and airport transfers. Our goal is to encourage travellers to explore more destinations in India, which will provide a much-needed boost to the local and national economy. We are hopeful that the continued increase in business and leisure travel will lead to positive economic growth, thereby, benefiting small businesses and creating jobs for communities nationwide.”

“The contribution of the travel and tourism sector to the Indian economy is expected to surpass the pre-pandemic levels with a year-on-year growth of 20.7% in 2024. As per the reports, the global travel insurance market size was valued at USD 17.8 billion in 2021 and is expected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 15.4% from 2022 to 2030. Therefore, there is an increased preference for TNPL (Travel Now, Pay Later) platform as customers like to conserve cash and carry extra cash to the destination or park in their savings. Though many people want to travel, most of them are sceptical about using their savings for the same as the fear of another pandemic-like situation still lurks on. Hence, TNPL platforms make sense since it allows one to experience travel in a pocket-friendly manner. This not only helps them plan travel trips without budget worries but also allows them to keep their savings intact and pay for the same in a convenient manner,” said Akash Dahiya, Co-founder, SanKash.

Satyajeet Krishnan, Area Director – New Delhi and General Manager – Taj Mahal, New Delhi, said, “We are seeing a robust bounce back in demand across segments. The pent-up demand for corporate travel, physical business meetings and conferences, government delegations and the wedding segment have greatly contributed to the surge in occupancies at our hotels in the national capital. The return of corporate and overseas travel leads to an increase in the overall performance of leisure and business segments. India’s 2023 presidency of the G-20 also provides a huge opportunity to the industry to showcase India as a melting pot, and Indian hospitality, while providing a boost to occupancies and revenues. Luxury has proven to be resilient and a number of luxury brands have performed better in most sectors during the challenging phase that the world went through. Now, the business is coming back with in person meetings, official visits of dignitaries & Head of State delegations and social celebrations. This will accelerate further in the Capital and within the country because of G20. Our city, and our country at large, are indeed a melting pot with such unique and differentiated travel offerings. We eagerly look forward to welcoming guests to their favourite hospitality destinations for business stays, festivities, culinary experiences and social celebrations.”
