Meghalaya opens its doors for tourists

A COVID Negative report is mandatory for tourists and is valid only if tested within 72 hours of their arrival at the entry point

Meghalaya is looking forward to welcoming tourists from 21st December. Under the current situation, a valid e-invite is mandatory for travel. All tourists who wish to visit the State will need to mandatorily register on the Meghalaya Tourism App and generate an E-Invite for the proposed itinerary.

It is  also mandatory for tourists to come with a COVID Negative RT-PCR/TruNat/CBNAAT report which will be valid only if the tourists are tested within 72 hours of their arrival at the entry point.

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma had earlier this month announced the government’s decision of  reopening of the state to tourists. The tourists will have to adhere to strict social distancing norms and health guidelines as laid down by the Ministry of Health.

We are reopening Tourism in Meghalaya for tourists from outside the State from December 21, 2020. To ensure the safety of everyone, registration through the Meghalaya Tourism App is made mandatory and SOPs are put in place. The ‘Home of Clouds’ looks forward to welcoming you.” The Chief Minister announced on Twitter.

It is mandatory to book at least two nights stay (either Hotel/Homestay/Guest House) for the first two nights and declaration of the complete itinerary for the E-Invite to be generated. If the tourist is staying as a guest of any family or friend in Meghalaya, then the tourist shall declare the full address and contact details of the family or friend and the complete itinerary for the E-Invite to be generated.

The e-invite should be presented at the entry checkpoints along with the COVID negative certificate.

Meghalaya has reported  499 active Covid-19 cases and 134 Covid-related deaths as of December 21, 2020.
