Kanpur Airport’s Rs 144-crore terminal set to open in December 2022

At this terminal, there would be provision to park three A-321 airplanes

The state of Uttar Pradesh is rapidly advancing in all things travel and tourism. Amid this, the commercial capital of the state, Kanpur, has been witnessing an increasing number of passengers at its airport. Keeping this in mind, the Airport Authority of India (AAI) has decided to further develop the Kanpur Airport. The aim is to also facilitate the economic development of the entire region.

The AAI, in a tweet, shared that a new terminal is being developed at an investment of Rs 143.6 crore and would have the provision to park three A-321 airplanes. According to the authority, the work is in full swing. It also added that the new terminal building of the civil enclave will be designed to process 300 passengers during peak hours.

The Union Ministry of Civil Aviation shared that by December this year, the airport will have world-class facilities in place. Last month, Commissioner Kanpur Mandal IAS Raj Shekhar visited the airport to review the progress of the work. Post his visit, Shekhar shared that all measures were being taken to ensure timely completion of the work so that flight operations could begin soon.

The Kanpur Airport, which historically served as a military air base and only began commercial operations in 1970, serves as a domestic airport and is slowly getting service upgrades. Last month, it got an Ambulift with a capacity of six wheelchairs and two stretchers to help differently abled passengers and those with restricted mobility board the aircraft.

Against this backdrop, the new terminal with high-end facilities is highly anticipated as it would help provide passengers from nearby areas with better connectivity to Delhi, Bengaluru and Mumbai.
