Important to Showcase Our Indian Culture to Attract more MICE Business

To attract more MICE business in India, ICPB is currently working on a research, to know the size of the conference industry in India.

“WE ARE failing to showcase our Indian culture”, says Anil Bhandari, CMD- AB Smart Concepts & Former CMD – ITDC. He was speaking at the BW BusinessWorld and BW Hotelier’s second edition of MICE Conclave and Awards held at The Grand New Delhi on 4th December 2018. Bhandari believes that we have become the copiers of the West World and hence it has somewhere kept us behind in bringing in more tourist and MICE business to India.

Bejan Dinshaw, Country Manager, Department of Culture & Tourism, Abu Dhabi present at the event, stated that this financial year, Abu Dhabi has witnessed 3,65,000 Indian tourists checking into the hotel. He further claims that 35-40 percent of this number would have been for the MICE business. Dinshaw also informed about the wedding market in Abu Dhabi which attracts more of Indian clientele.

To attract more MICE business in India, ICPB is currently working on a research, to know the size of the conference industry in India. Speaking more about it, Chander Mansharamani, MD-Alpcord Network Travel & Conferences Management Company & Vice Chairman, ICPB comments, “ Until or unless we don’t know the size of conference industry, infrastructure for that cannot be built. Conference industry alone brings on 17 percent of the growth in the MICE industry.” Adding more to the challenges of MICE industry, Mansharamani feels the need for Government of India to make MICE policies.
