IHA 2020 Regional Jury South concurs though competitive nominations

The eminent jury went through each submitted nomination diligently and shared some of the key observations with the participants as well as the audience for a fair presentation of the results.

The Indian Hospitality Summit and Awards conducted by BW HOTELIER annually enters its fifth edition and the theme for this year is ‘Reimagining Indian Hospitality’. Leading towards the event, the South Zone Regional Jury met on August 18, 2020, to concur on the nominations and choose the winners.

The worthy Regional Jury – South was headed by Veer Vijay Singh, CEO & MD, Trance Hotels. Congratulating the entire BW HOTELIER team, he said, “As they say the devil is in the detail, the event is very well organised and I have enjoyed the entire experience of judging.” Later he added, “In the most difficult time when hoteliers are not getting any support, yet they are working 24/7 BW Hotelier has recognised this.”

The renowned and esteemed jury members included Hari Marar, Managing Director & CEO, Bangalore International Airport Ltd; PK Mohan Kumar, Founder & CEO, Turnstone Hospitality LLP; Anand Rao, Former Managing Director, Landbase India Limited; Dr. Chef Soundararajan, Founder General Secretary, Indian Federation of Culinary Associations; Honorary Member, WORLDCHEFS and Priya Bala, Writer, Author, Restaurant Critic.

Talking about the hospitality industry amid the hour of crisis, Mohan Kumar said, “This is the best time for the hospitality industry to be recognised. It is an opportunity for us to tell the Indian demography that we are the power to recognise. We have been working 24/7 even through the pandemic.” Furthermore, he said, “We are going through the representations of all those who have applied, and the results are completely based on merit. The parameters of the evaluation are brilliantly calibrated.”

The Regional Jury South divided themselves into three teams and curated twelve different categories, each team having to judge four categories. The eminent jury went through each submitted nomination diligently and shared some of the key observations with the participants as well as the audience for a fair presentation of the results.

Elaborating about the conduct of IHA amidst the crisis, Marar said, “It was a great idea to conduct the awards during this crisis.” “The award programme has been recognised as an absolute pinnacle, BW HOTELIER has had a tremendous role in the hospitality industry and has been a support to the aspiring hoteliers. It was an extremely enriching experience. The questionnaires were bespoke and tailormade. The entire procedure was completely transparent and fair. The quality of the discussion has been extremely enriching,” he added.

The entire hospitality industry has gone through a downfall due to Covid-19, talking about the role played by BW HOTELIER, Dr. Chef Soundararajan stated, “During these unprecedented times, BW hotelier has come out with a torch supporting the hospitality industry. The entire process has been done meticulously. We have seen professional and personal contribution by the nominees.”

Sharing his experience at IHA 2020, Rao said, “I’m proud to be a part of the jury, IHA is like the Oscar of the industry. The questions were exacting and challenged the jury members. We had to apply ourselves and ensure that we were fair. The results were measured both qualitatively and quantitatively. The BW HOTELIER team has been terrific enablers and extremely supportive.”

The jury members mentioned time and again about the results being completely based on merit and how the quality of the nominations was remarkable, the results were with the consensus of the members.

Priya Bala expressed that she was impressed with the quality of the nominations and how they have grown from the previous edition. She said, “Despite having to go virtual, the entire process has evolved, there has been a vast growth. The detailing of the questionnaire was vast and brilliant.”

Mentioning about the emotional quotient present in the nominations, she commented, “The submissions reflected the intelligence, emotional intelligence, sensitivity, empathy and professional skills.”

All in all the South Jury meet was well executed and was an extremely enriching experience.
