‘Service not just reserved to hospitality industry’

Le Meridien Hyderabad General Manager Nitin Marriya believes everyone has a global responsibility and a one-of-a-kind potential to create a positive impact in the community

A seasoned and well-known professional in the hospitality industry, Nitin Marriya during his 19-year career has always had an inkling towards the wellness of the community. It was due of this reason, he enrolled himself to be a part of Marriott International’s Serve360 initiative.

With a General Manager as passionate and vocal about the community as Marriya, the staff of Le Meridien Hyderabad has been greatly influenced by him. They have not only found a cause but have been able to support it under his able leadership. He believes everyone has a global responsibility and a one-of-a-kind potential to create a positive impact in the community. Under the Serve360 initiative, the hotel continuously strives to give back to the community by executing numerous activities and eventually staying true to the brand’s core of ‘Serving Our World’.

This year, as the hotel marked its second anniversary, they took the celebrations a notch higher and decided to celebrate ‘Global Customer Appreciation Week’. Making this momentous occasion special, the hotel prepared and shared nutritious meals with children from an orphanage home. Volunteering, says Marriya, has helped him shape into a real leader and a true human being. The hotel, hence, on a monthly basis serves the children of Sankalp Foundation, an orphanage in close proximity of the hotel.

During the third wave of the pandemic, the entire team was delighted to distribute food and essentials to the orphanage in addition to kites on the occasion of Makar Sankranti. With safety precautions leading conversations during the third wave, the hotel distributed masks and sanitisers too. Le Meridien Hyderabad also helped distribute sanitary napkins as part of its commitment to women health and hygiene. It gave the team a sense of purpose. They experienced a fulfilling feeling of giving back and contributing to society which was unparalleled.

“We, at Le Meridien Hyderabad, believe that sustainability is not just a course of action but a responsible journey towards a better future and that service is not just reserved to the Hospitality industry but also to the community. We are committed to making a positive difference to the ecosystem and have hence focused on implementing sustainable practices. By reducing the carbon intensity of the property, recycling garbage and preserving water, we have brought about a significant change to our surrounding,” says the GM, adding “To limit HLP use, our hotel features auto electrical systems and an energy saving committee. All the guest floors have 100 per cent sustainable LED lights with thermostats that can be adjusted. We also conduct regular inspections of our chillers and heat pump HVAC systems to ensure there is no wear and tear or even overuse.”

Elaborating on the way he keeps the staff of the hotel motivated, Marriya says, “In line with Marriott International’s CSR initiative, we have designated two champions for the Serve360 project at the property level to drive the hotel's sustainable operations. All our empowered associates take sustainability as their civic responsibility and follow them diligently because at LMH, we work as a team, serve and save as a team.”
