This World Environment Day, we spoke with Kulbhushan Talwar, Cluster General Manager, Mosaic Hotels to understand how sustainability fares within the group

World Environment Day: Every year, World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5 to encourages awareness and action for the protection of the environment. Different organisations, NGOs and businesses come together to further the cause in their own ways. For the hospitality industry, as well, protection of the environment is an important aspect, especially with travellers becoming more conscious of their own actions as well as actions of businesses that they support. 

This World Environment Day, we spoke with Kulbhushan Talwar, Cluster General Manager, Mosaic Hotels to understand how sustainability fares within the group. "Being a responsible entity we always try to function in a sustainable way to ensure conscious use of resources and receive positive response from customers," he shares.

Excerpts from the interview:

Can you tell us about the eco-friendly initiatives being taken at the Mosaic Hotels properties?

We have been following a number of eco-friendly measures at the hotel, such as plastic-free F&B operations, since we are committed to a sustainable future. In F&B packaging, we use substitute materials in place of plastic. To reduce the amount of non-biodegradable trash, we no longer use plastic bags or kitchenware. We at Mosaic Hotels are trying to make Mosaic a plastic-free hotel in the upcoming years.

What is your vision to increase sustainability efforts at Mosaic?

Our vision is to encourage responsible and conscious use of resources. As climate change and global warming are prevalent in current times, as a responsible business enterprise we aim to use resources in a calculated manner and protect our existing resources by adopting sustainability measures wherever possible. Our objective is to become an ecofriendly property by introducing little changes in our system. We have started implementing ecofriendly measures in day to day operation, our prime focus is to minimise waste generation, energy saving and to cut down the usage of plastics.

How can incorporation of sustainability benefit a property?

Adopting sustainability as a core value always benefits a property in terms of saving energy and funds. Our water recycling policy has helped us in saving water and expense on usages. No plastic policy got us appreciation from our conscious guests and long term association with them.
