IndiGo has introduced exclusive direct flights connecting the national capital, Delhi, to Itanagar, effective today, October 2, 2023. IndiGo, already connecting Itanagar to major metropolitan hubs like Mumbai and Kolkata, has strategically added Delhi to its list of destinations.

With the addition of the new Delhi-Itanagar flight, previously less accessible destinations like Tawang are expected to experience a surge in tourist arrivals via scheduled commercial flights.

The introduction of this direct connection is set to catalyse substantial growth in the region, offering travellers enhanced convenience and a wide range of flight options. Vinay Malhotra, Head of Global Sales at IndiGo, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "This strategic addition not only offers passengers expanded travel options but also opens up exciting opportunities for those looking to explore the enchanting landscapes of Arunachal Pradesh."

IndiGo, with its extensive network and maximum domestic and international connections from Delhi, aims to boost not only travel and tourism but also trade, contributing to overall economic development in the region.

In recent years, IndiGo has actively worked to improve accessibility in Northeast India, successfully connecting with seven out of the eight states in this diverse landscape. On November 28, 2022, the airline marked a significant milestone by launching operations at Donyi Polo Airport in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, connecting the city to prominent destinations like Mumbai and Kolkata.

Donyi Polo Airport, inaugurated nearly a year ago in Itanagar, is conveniently located just 15 kilometres from the state capital. This newfound accessibility to Itanagar, often referred to as the "land of dawn-lit mountains," is expected to bolster tourism, attracting visitors to explore key attractions in the region.

Travellers can now embark on journeys to iconic sites such as Ita Fort, Jawaharlal Nehru Museum, Namdapha National Park, and the charming town of Tawang, nestled amid the scenic Gudpi and Chong-Chung Mi ranges. Adventurers can explore serene glacial lakes like Sangetser and Sela, seek serenity at the Taktsang Gompa, or ascend Gorichen Peak to behold breathtaking vistas of the town below.

Itanagar also boasts other notable tourist destinations, including the picturesque Gekar Sinyi (Ganga Lake), a vibrant craft centre and emporium, a captivating Zoological Park, the scenic Indira Gandhi Park, the idyllic Polo Park, and an array of revered Buddhist temples.
