Gujarat hoteliers express confidence in the state’s economic prosperity

In the latest episode of BW HOTELIER’s webBLAST series, The GM Show Season 2, the focus was on Vibrant Gujarat. During the discussion, hoteliers from Gujarat expressed confidence in the state’s economic prosperity and its positive impact on the luxury hospitality sector. They collectively agreed that the hospitality industry will remain poised for a dynamic future.

The episode brought together seasoned General Managers including Aveek Sengupta, Cluster GM, Taj Skyline Ahmedabad; Puneet Baijal, GM, Hyatt Regency Ahmedabad; Suraj Kumar Jha, GM, Crowne Plaza Ahmedabad City Centre; Avinash Deshmukh, GM, Welcomhotel Vadodara; Amit Mehta, Area Director & GM, Surat Marriott Hotel and Keenan McKenzie, GM, ITC Narmada.

Sengupta set the tone by stating Gujarat’s status as the economic capital of India, attributing the growing expectations of visitors to the state’s increasing economic prosperity. “With businesses flourishing and people earning disposable income, there’s a surge in spending, especially in the luxury segment such as hotels,” he said, adding, “Gujarat’s emergence as an industrial powerhouse is accelerating the growth of the luxury hospitality landscape.”

Baijal noted the crucial role of marketing in showcasing the greatness of Gujarat. “Whatever is great about Gujarat won’t be known without a good marketing strategy,” he said. He pointed out that Gujarat often serves as the first point of entry for international personalities visiting India.

The diverse attractions of Gujarat, including the enchanting Rann of Kutch, have been globally showcased during events like the G20 Summit, contributing to the state’s appeal on the international stage. Jha highlighted the importance of robust infrastructure for a state or city. “Proper sports facilities, entertainment, travel, and connectivity infrastructure contribute to the overall hospitality sector,” said Jha, noting the influx of people during cricket matches and business meets hosted by the state.

Deshmukh emphasised the resilience of hospitality teams, stating, “Teams that can handle trouble are the ones that can come through after any storm.” Mehta of the Marriott Hotel commended the government’s holistic approach to tourism policies. He particularly appreciated the attention given to Gir Wildlife Sanctuary, home to Asiatic lions, and the ongoing exploration of hidden potential in districts like Dang and Saputara.

McKenzie stressed on the importance of responsible luxury and sustainability. “For the upcoming generation, sustainable practices play a huge role in choosing a place to stay or an activity to do,” he said. He highlighted ITC Hotels’ commitment to promoting Gujarat’s culture through sustainable practices, including series that connect travellers with the state through cuisine, art, and culture.

The episode ended with the host, Bhuvanesh Khanna, thanking the panellists for providing a comprehensive look into the operational intricacies. He also informed everyone about the next episode of The GM Show on December 7.
