First Potbelly Sandwich Shop Opens in India

Kwal’s Group has shortlisted various locations in different cities to open five outlets in India by the end of 2018. The group has a target of opening 20 outlets in the next 5 years and reach a turnover of around 20 crores by 2020.

 Potbelly Corporation, USA a fast- growing neighborhood sandwich concept founded in 1977 in Chicago has signed a multi-franchise agreement with Kwal’s Group, to bring Potbelly Sandwich Restaurant to India. The chain famous for its Soup, Salad and Sandwiches has recently opened its first outlet in DLF Cyber Hub, Gurgaon.

“We sell the highest quality of bread and meat, the sandwiches are iconic and the brand is all about health and being healthy. We don’t use any MSG or Ajinomoto or any such ingredients in our food. We also have a certain offering especially for diabetic and people who prefer gluten- free food,” said Sameer Lamba, Managing Director, Kwals Group.

The menu for India will feature dishes such as locally inspired vegetarian salads, soups and sandwiches to utilize regional produce and local ingredients. “We have kept the ethos of the brand but have also kept a couple of Indian offerings suiting the taste of Indians and the quality of the product is the same which we have in abroad,” he added.

The outlet has an area of 1000 sq. ft. with a sitting capacity for 40 guests, “Potbelly is basically a lunch place and the idea was to open around a large corporate hub where people would come and eat their sandwich every day,” said Lamba.

According to Lamba, Kwal’s Group has already shortlisted various locations in different cities to open five outlets by the end of 2018. The group has a target of opening 20 outlets in the next 5 years and reach a turnover of around 20 crores by 2020.
