Bombaykery Marks Another Milestone: Enters Delhi Market

BOMBAYKERY AFTER two years of glorious success has recently opened doors to its second outlet within Delhi NCR. Foraying into the heart of South Delhi’s Deer Park in Safdarjung Enclave – The Bombaykery has for the first time collaborated with two upcoming brands, Kaffa Cerrado (doing coffee) and Big Fat Pizza (serving up napolitan pizzas and hand-made pastas). The outlet is a collaborative effort of three brands focusing on their core offerings, while space offers a cool vibe (with outdoor seating too). This year the brand also aims to further expand into the institutional catering business with multiple discussions presently taking place.

A self-funded dream project that took shape a little over two years ago is owned and managed by the team trio of Mitali Sahani, Karan Sahani and Manhar Sabharwal. What started out as a Cloud-Bakery & Pop-Up in late 2015, a flag-ship store at DLF Cyber Hub last year, in a short time span The Bombaykery has captured a large market share within the Delhi NCR.

Apart from expansion, The Bombaykery has recently added coffee and chunky milk-shakes to their menu. An entire selection of savouries have been added – ranging from croissants to quiches and signature items like pao bombs and pattice. The Bombaykery has also been working on a breads menu which is rumoured to be not just a regular breads but a range of healthy breads.

In a recent interaction with BW Hotelier, Karan Sahani, Co-Founder of Bombaykery spoke about the market strategies and further expansion plans. Hesitating to share his strategies he said, “Delhi is a completely different animal. The customers are spoilt for choice and will surely be a tough market to crack. However, I have some tricks up my sleeves to market and penetrate the Delhi market. Besides, the walk-in and take-out customers, The Bombaykery is aiming at further strengthening its delivery network and also push for a full-blown e-commerce strategy.”

Sharing his insights on the location, he further added, “Deer Park, Safdarjung Enclave is a densely populated residential area – with surrounding areas such as Green Park and Hauz Khas we found the location to be apt to play a role of a friendly neighbourhood bakery that also has the pleasure of being surrounded by large green areas/patches. The Deer Park market location is also very well situated to pose as a delivery hub with great access to most of South Delhi and Central Delhi – the two major markets of focus at the moment.”

2017 marked as a year of many milestones for The Bombaykery. Biggest, being the launch of the flag-ship store at DLF Cyber Hub they added a host of new menu items including coffee, shakes and savories. In 2017, The Bombaykery also played dessert hosts to many high-end weddings not only in Delhi NCR but also Hyderabad and Udaipur. “We also bagged couple of B2B business contracts and continued to focus of the festivals business. The top-line grew by a staggering over 220 percent while the APC grew by a mere 12 percent,” Sahani informed.

The Bombaykery aims to open one or two more outlets within Delhi NCR, post which the brand is exploring opportunities across the country. With Mumbai being top priority, the brand is also in discussions with partners in Goa, Pune, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. The brand also aims to launch a sub-brand with a range of bakery items keeping in mind the healthy customers.
