Paperless travel is quickly becoming the norm and it has been something that the Government of India has been working towards since before the COVID-19 pandemic. A major step has now been taken in furthering the cause of digital travel – the soft launch of DigiYatra app at the Delhi and Bengaluru airports.
On the occasion of the 75th Independence Day of India, the beta version of the app was launched to test the “Future of Air Travel” and ensure seamless travel. At the Delhi airport, DIAL installed the required facilities at Terminal 3 and already conducted its trials, during which about 20,000 people were able to have a seamless and secured experience. According to a tweet shared by the Delhi Airport, with this technology, the travellers’ faces would become the new boarding pass.
Meanwhile, the Bengaluru Airport shared that the beta version of DigiYatra biometric boarding system was tested on passengers travelling domestic sector on Vistara and Air Asia flights.
The programme is based on the Digi Yatra Biometric Boarding System policy of the Ministry of Civil Aviation. The policy aims to create a solution that would allow a hassle-free, contact-less and safe travel experience for domestic passengers based on real-time selfie-based facial biometric validation.
To enroll in this, passengers can download the beta version of the DigiYatra app from the Google Play Store, currently. The iOS version of the app is also expected to be released in a month’s time.
