On the occasion of World Tourism Day, Amity University's Noida campus hosted the 19th Symposium, focusing on the theme "Smart Tourism and Green Investment." The event, held in collaboration with the Tourism and Hospitality Skill Council (THSC), brought together industry experts, dignitaries, and students to discuss the future of sustainable tourism.

H.E. Ambassador H. Dillum, Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Ambassador of Mauritius in India, Embassy of Mauritius, graced the event as the Guest of Honour. In his address, he emphasised the pivotal role of students in advancing the tourism industry through technology while safeguarding the environment. Ambassador Dillum stated, "Students are the future of the country, and they must ensure that the industry thrives through technological advancement without having any adverse impact on the environment. Tourism is a driver for economic development."  

He added, "The theme of the recently concluded G20 Summit was 'Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam,' which means 'One earth, one family,' and tourism is the best way to bring the world closer and promote the exchange of knowledge and learning. In addition, the role of SMEs and start-ups is integral when it comes to green investments in the tourism industry."

Jyoti Mayal, President of the Travel Agents Association of India and Chairperson of the Tourism and Hospitality Sector Skill Council (THSC), delved into the themes of smart tourism and green investments. She encouraged students to embrace adventure and stay informed about the latest developments by being vocal for local'.  

Shveta Sharma, COO of Hotel-Spider, India, emphasised how sustainability in tourism cannot be overlooked at any cost. She said, "The sustainability aspect cannot be ignored; the industry must focus on reusing, recycling, reducing waste, and adopting sustainable measures.” Sharma also highlighted the course of technological development in hospitality: "Technology has taken over all sectors and has enabled many innovations and developments across various areas. The tourism industry needs to make full use of new technologies to become more advanced and efficient,” she added.

Kush Kapoor, CEO of the Roseate Group of Hotels, advised students to focus on "TIPS," which stands for transparency, innovation, passion, and simplicity. He noted, "Today India is the fastest-growing economy in the world, and this is a golden era for students. They must seize the opportunities that lie ahead." Rajan Sehgal, President of the India Golf Tourism Association (IGTA) and Chairman of the Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI), emphasised the importance of a balance between technology and human skills. He encouraged students to heed the advice of industry experts while also nurturing their creativity and individual skills.  

Vinod Zutshi, IAS Retired, Former Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, discussed essential factors for smart tourism, including digital information and services, personalisation through data analytics, smart transportation, environmental monitoring, and disaster management. He stressed the importance of sustainable practices to conserve nature and maintain a safe environment.

Prof. (Dr.) M. Sajnani, Dean of the Faculty of Hospitality & Tourism and Director of Amity Institute of Travel & Tourism, welcomed the guests and highlighted the symposium's goal of sensitising students to the importance of smart tourism and green investments. He said, "Sustainability is of utmost importance, and it is the responsibility of each one of us to minimise our carbon footprint and adopt eco-friendly practices."  

The event acted as a platform for thought-provoking discussions, expert insights, and a call to action for the next generation of tourism professionals to lead the industry into a sustainable and technologically advanced future. The symposium also featured vibrant cultural programmes presented by students of the Faculty of Hospitality & Tourism, along with competitions such as salad-making, debate, quizzes, and photography, with prizes awarded to the winners.
