Accor properties in Chennai join Beach Cleanup drive on International Coastal Cleanup Day

To cover a significant portion, the hotels identified multiple beach fronts to join the activity

Over 100 team members from Accor’s seven hotels in Chennai came together to participate in ‘The Planet’s Largest Coastal Clean-up Drive’, in collaboration with Communitree, a Chennai-based NGO.

Communitree is a not-for-profit organisation based out of Chennai which maintains and manages 6.8 lakh trees across 58 locations in India. Team Communitree is also working extensively on the larger goal of #SaveTurtle, believes that this beach cleaning initiative is a great start to achieve the larger goal of saving turtles.

To have a significant portion covered, the hotels identified multiple beach fronts where they would join with the coastal clean-up activity. Novotel ibis Chennai OMR, Novotel Chennai SIOCOT, ibis Chennai SIPCOT and Mercure Chennai Sriperumbudur, which are located on the southern side of Chennai, carried out clean-up activities at Juhu Beach and its surrounding beaches. Novotel Chennai Chamiers Road and Ibis Chennai City Center joined the movement in and around Marina Beach.

Speaking on the occasion, Rayan Aranha, General Manager, Novotel ibis Chennai OMR and Novotel Chennai SIPCOT, said, "We are incredibly delighted that we could contribute towards this noble cause. I am also glad to represent these extremely conscious and charged team members who are eager to work towards of the planet with every action of theirs."

Also present was Vineesh Kurup, General Manager, ibis Chennai City Center and ibis Chennai SIPCOT, who said, "We, at Accor are not only working towards sustainable operations, we are also committed to remove single use plastic from all guest facing areas by end of 2022, we are also deeply committed towards a sustainable planet too."
