We need to create a global MICE bidding fund with a corpus for ₹500 crores: Tiwari

Speaking at the 13th CIC, annual flagship event of ICPB, Amaresh Tiwari, Vice Chairman, ICPB said that we need to create a global MICE bidding fund with a corpus for ₹500 crores to enable our entrepreneurs to be able to undertake techno economic bids for events which have a bid cycle of two years plus.

India Conventions Promotion Bureau(ICPB) recently held its two-day 13th CIC, which is the annual flagship event of the MICE association. Being a hybrid event, over 80 people attended the event at the venue – J W Marriott Aerocity New Delhi and over 1200+ people joined in virtually.  

The honourable Minister for Tourism Prahlad Singh Patel, who was the Chief Guest at the event, joined in virtually and applauded the efforts of ICPB to be the front runners in hosting a hybrid event of this magnitude. Rakesh Kumar Verma IAS, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Tourism and Chairman ICPB virtually inaugurated the ICPB Exhibition and went on to share in his address that the travel industry and people in general will come out of the COVID crisis stronger than before, ready to meet any challenge in life head on. ICPB MICE Film was also globally launched during the inaugural session.

Amaresh Tiwari, Vice Chairman, ICPB, in his opening remarks said, “To target global congress, conventions and conferences and social events we need to create a global MICE bidding fund with a corpus for ₹500 crores to enable our entrepreneurs undertake techno economic bids for events which have a bid cycle of 2 years plus. We need to create city convention bureaus in each of our main cities which will work with ICPB as their hub to carry out a global bidding activity.”  

Girish Kwatra, Hony. Secretary, ICPB, in his opening address said, “Reopening of MICE not only helps in reviving the MICE stakeholders but also the other sectors attached to it. Business events have multi sector impact and are an efficient means of supporting the recovery and advancement of a wide range of economic, professional, academic and business sectors. Therefore, reviving the MICE sector is like reigniting the whole economy.”  

Some of the highlights of Day 1 of 13th CIC were the Keynote Address by Ori Lahav, President, IAPCO. First Panel Discussion of the day was on the topic “Strategizing for Survival, Revival and Thrival of MICE in India, which was moderated by Nitesh Gandhi, General Manager – JW Marriott Aerocity and attended by ICPB office bearers. Panel Discussion II talked about “Critical path of Contracting: Event Risks, Attrition, Retention, Cancellation, Minimums, Concessions based on New Normal. It was moderated by Amaresh Tiwari and had people join in both physically as well as virtually. Panel Discussion III was on “Innovative ways of executing MICE - New Normal”, which was moderated by Girish Kwatra and comprised office bearers from the association join in physically to brainstorm on ways to exist and do business the “new normal way”.  

Day 2 of the CIC will see broadcast of hybrid hub sessions, which will be held physically and transmitted live from Crowne Plaza, Gr. Noida and BIEC, Bangalore to promote these cities as MICE hubs through advanced technology to provide a quality digital experience.
