Nanotechnology and Artificial Intelligence in housekeeping can take the department to another level.

FROM CAPTURING the stay experience of a guest to making notes on a software about the inventory and hygiene levels, technology in housekeeping has escalated to another level.

“Technology has become so vast that it helps in maintaining software for housekeeping, and capturing credit for associates, rooms cleaned, etc.,” said Vaishali Sinha, Founder & General Secretary, IPHA, who was part of the discussion “Staying smart to please the guest” at the BW Hotelier Smart Hotels Conclave and Expo 2018.

Also present, Anmol Ahluwalia, General Manager, Taj Wellington Mews; Sareena Kochar, VP Housekeeping, Lemontree Hotels; Harinder Kishore, Director of Housekeeping, Andaz Delhi; Gaurav Sinha, Director of Rooms, JW Marriott New Delhi Aerocity;  Vaneeta Arora, Director (Housekeeping), The Park New Delhi; Amitabh Srivastava, Artist, Art consultant & Founder of The Art Kommune New Delhi and Arts4all Foundation in New York and also Joint Secretary HPMF.

While stating the fact that the customer nowadays is very tech savvy, Kochar said, “When we make rooms we make sure our rooms are tech savvy and the food is served well with the guest’s favourite music. A lot goes behind catering to the high-end stuff in the hotel.” She also added that how the brand has adapted SAP system that helps in the procurement of items and products.

Srivastava emphasized the importance of care and commitment from a brand. He said that the first impression is the last impression and a lot of matters when it comes to the guest experience – stay, food, rooms, etc.

While stating that Andaz is a pet-friendly hotel, Kishore added, “All the stuff in rooms is made natural. There is no superficial polish and thick scotch guarded fabric. Everything is very naturally procured and the design element is always kept in mind.”

Ahluwalia believes that passion is the most important out of the 4P’s in housekeeping. He also talked about the huge support provided by the nanotechnology and the use of Artificial Intelligence. “Today we have chips inside linen which helps us to keep a tab on how many times it has been washed, used, and whether it needs to be discarded,” he said. So technology is building the standard of the hotel as well as reinventing the brands.
