Hemant Oberoi All Set to Open Restaurant in BKC, Mumbai

In a one on one chat, the legendary chef shared a brief outline of what his restaurant, which he says will open by January 2017 latest, will be all about. Meanwhile, his globetrotting hasn't really slowed down as Oberoi shared the news of his latest venture Yantra's popularity in the extremely competitive Singapore food scene.

CHEF HEMANT Oberoi looks decidedly more relaxed and chilled out, when BW Hotelier caught up with him at a restaurant in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC).
Oberoi, who retired this year from the Taj Hotels hasn’t slowed down from his travels, but the big news he shared with us was that he was opening up a restaurant at BKC soon.
“I have not really decided what cuisine we are going to be serving, or what to call the restaurant,” Oberoi told us, but he seemed certain that the outlet would be opening up by January 2017 at the latest.
Oberoi also shared that of his restaurant in Singapore, called Yantra by Hemant Oberoi, which serves Indian haut cuisine as only Oberoi can devise it, was set to do business of over three million Singapore dollars in the first year of operations. The restaurant is fairly large with 96 covers indoors and 40 al fresco, has been set up with the backing of Gill Capital, owned by billionaire Jagdev Singh Gill.
The outlet which he is set to open at BKC is not going to be Indian, he told us, but he didn’t really specify the kind of food which was going to be served. In fact, he told us that hiring had not begun as yet for the restaurant.
The globe-trotting chef has been filling his time working with his family as well. He told us about the newest opening of a restaurant christened Masala Street, this time run by company led by Oberoi’s younger son, Saransh Oberoi in California. “I have been helping him with setting up the restaurant,” Oberoi told us.
