Celebrity Cruises Unveils Celebrity Edge; Plans to Invest USD 400 Million in 2019-2023

Joanna Natalia Rzymowska, Vice President & Managing Director, UK and Ireland & Asia, Celebrity Cruises, on her recent trip to India, spoke to BW Hotelier on new ships and future plans.

CELEBRITY CRUISES' iconic modern luxury designs are created to provide an unmatched experience for vacationers’ precious time. The ships offer modern luxury vacations visiting all seven continents. Of all these, Celebrity Edge, the newest ship in the fleet, will start sailing from December 4, 2018.

“The ship offers 29 restaurants and bars, 4 main dining restaurants, 7 new speciality dining concepts (a new series to the RCL fleet), 11 bars and lounges and 5 complimentary dining venues,” reveals Joanna Natalia Rzymowska, Vice President & Managing Director, UK and Ireland & Asia, Celebrity Cruises, on her recent trip to India.

Celebrity Edge has a stunning design and breakthrough staterooms set a new standard for modern luxury travel. Designed completely in 3D, and featuring the work of A-list global architects and designers, the 2,918-guest vessel aims to make discerning global travellers redefine how they experience the world and how intimate a vacation can be. Above all, Eden is a unique venue where state of the art design is fused into every element, including cuisine served by “Edenists.”

As part of its fleet modernisation plan, the cruise liner is set to invest USD 400 million during the period 2019-2023. “The plan is to renovate nine large ships of the Celebrity fleet with upgradation of the facilities, strategic addition of staterooms, refurbishment of public areas, and enhancement of the crew,” she said.

Talking about India as a dynamic market, Jo explains that the Celebrity Constellation, sailing on the Abu Dhabi itinerary in April 2018, is bringing 17,500 guests to India, visiting Mumbai, Goa and Kochi. “India is a growing market for us and we are looking at offering a premium luxury experience to the guest.”

The USP of the ship as Jo explains, “Design is one of our pillars, and as you look at the ships across our entire fleet, they are designed more like boutique hotels than any other cruise ship that you might see. For instance, Celebrity Edge is helmed by star designers - Nate Berkus, Kelly Hoppen, and Tom Wright – which will be a game-changing mega-vessel that magically brings the outdoors inside.”

In a recent development, the Cruise has also announced support for Malala Fund and education for girls around the world by honouring Malala Yousafzai as Godmother of Celebrity Edge in a two-year partnership with the Fund.

Moreover, Celebrity Cruises is building a ship to be deployed in the Galapagos. The vessel termed ‘Celebrity Flora’ is an all-suite ship. “We are the first cruise liner to build a ship for the Galapagos and have been operating in the region since 2004,” she added.
